I've been seeing so many articles lately about the AI ROI crisis — companies spent billions and only 1 in 4 is actually seeing the return.

IBM, Deloitte, TE Connectivity — they all published versions of the same headline this quarter: the era of AI hype is over. Now it's time to prove the math.

To many of you out there, this may not be a red flag, but what I see is that the gap isn't the technology. It's the humans running it

So, it got me thinking, what are conversations actually worth??

And although I could make a very Mastercard-esque claim that they’re “priceless,” let’s actually look at some data:

What are conversations worth?

A love letter to Mastercard for inspiring this exercise...

One misaligned meeting — five people, $120K salaries, nothing resolved: $300. Per hour. Gone.

One employee who leaves because of a leader (not the company): $50,000 – $200,000 to replace. Every. Single. Time.

One miscommunication that nobody catches until it's too late:$1,000 – $10,000 in lost time, rework, and missed momentum.

One AI investment that stalls because the team can't surface problems fast enough, align on priorities, or tell the truth under pressure: Billions, apparently. (And counting.)

Knowing exactly what to say when it matters most — in the meeting, in the moment, when the stakes are highest and everyone is watching: Priceless.

(Or, as it turns out... the price of a seat in our next round of How to Talk to Humans Bootcamp. But we'll get there.)

Here's what the data is telling us right now (it's anything but subtle):

  • 47% of U.S. workers worry AI is going to take their job.

  • 60% of employees worldwide experience burnout sometimes, often, or always.

  • Only 13% of employees tell their manager when their mental health is suffering at work.

Thirteen. Percent.

That means 87% of your people are struggling in silence right now.

Not because they don't trust you — well, maybe because they don’t trust you…

But certainly because the world is moving at a pace humans simply weren't designed to keep up with — and nobody taught them (or you) how to say that out loud.

This is the Culture Cliff™.

The moment when speed outpaces the conversations holding your team together.

And it's happening in real time, in your industry, on your team, probably in your last three meetings. (Oh yeah, and around your dinner table at home).

The companies winning the AI era aren't just the ones with the best tools.

They're the ones where people can still talk to each other. (Or are committed to putting in the focus to learn how — finally).

Where someone can say "I don't know how to build what you're asking for" in week two — not week twenty-two when the runway is gone.

Where a leader can read the room well enough to see the self-doubt, the confusion, the quiet resignation written all over someone's face — and do something about it before it becomes a missed deadline, lackluster work product or resignation letter.

Today, (knowing how to read and lead) conversation is your most measurable competitive advantage.

Being human never mattered more.

And it’s time we optimize THAT system, the human system.

For a long time we’ve needed a better way to relate, but now…

We need an operating system for humans — a repeatable framework that scales human potential as fast as technology, in every conversation, at work and at home. (Because if it only works at work, it doesn’t work.)

You already know this. You've lived it.

So many of you have been in a room where BRAVE changed something for you — even just learning about it.

You’ve seen a single conversation shift the energy, unlock the tension, move something forward that had been stuck for months.

Now imagine your whole team having that skill.

Not just you. All of them.

That's what I want to talk to you about.

There are two ways to work together right now:

→ BRAVE Team Workshop

A high-impact 1.5 hour or half-day experience — built for leadership teams who are moving fast and need their people to stay connected while they do.

It's a performance upgrade with a price tag that pays for itself hundreds of times over the moment it prevents one bad hire, one blown project, one leader your team stops trusting… or simply one feedback conversation that didn’t move the needle.

Reply and let me know if this is interesting to you and I'll send you everything you need to bring this to your team.

→ How to Talk to Humans Bootcamp — Next Cohort

If you're ready to go deeper yourself — or you have a rising leader who's ready — the next cohort with open seats is this Fall.

Sign up here and I’ll put you on the priority list.

The world needs leaders who can do both — move fast AND stay human.

Let’s make sure you’re one of them.

Bravely,

Elisabeth

P.S. — Our leaders have seen $20K salary increases, $100K bonuses, and stock options topping $1M from doing this work. The ROI of a brave conversation? Still priceless. But the receipts are very, very real.
